Why I built this.
I built Family Roots after my granny passed away. For the first time in years, the whole family was together again — and I realized I didn't know my own cousins' kids' names, or how old they were. We'd drifted that far apart.
It got worse the more I thought about it. My uncles and my mom hardly remember much about their grandparents, and by the time I thought to ask my granny, dementia and Alzheimer's had already taken those stories from her. There was no way to get them back.
So I decided our family wasn't going to lose the next generation of stories the same way. Family Roots is where we record them — the tree that connects us, the pictures, the good times and the sad ones, the stories worth remembering and the ones worth laughing about at the next reunion.
We're even setting up our family heritage, crest, and slogan — so one day our kids can open this and see exactly who their family is and where they came from. In a space with no ads, and none of the content the internet throws at children.
